DYEYOUNG
HAIR COLOR PACKAGING CONCEPT

DYEYOUNG is a conceptualized line of hair color packaging intended to target a young adult demographic through use of bright colors, recognizable patterning, minimalistic design, and simplistic characters associate with each box.

The first time I dyed my hair I was 12 years old.
Since then, coloring my hair has become a integral form of personal expression. However, when perusing the hair dye aisles in convenience and beauty stores I noticed that most brands were completely ignoring the infinite possibilities presented to them when working with their packaging. All the boxes looked the same - some magazine-pretty girl or boy with hair the color meant to be achieved by whatever was inside. Tired of seeing the same 7 faces blur into each other time and time again, I chose to mock-up my own dream line of hair color packaging.

The packaging was inspired by Pantone as shown by the side of flat color with the brand name and individual color names as well as by my own love for simple design integrated in the patterning as well as the character designs. While all the characters have the same foundation - round faces with wide-set, black-dot eyes - they each seem to hold their own expression even without mouths simply by the color choice and hair design. Simple lines, geometric patterning, and bold use of flat color space speak volumes to the brand and its intended audience.
